Consumer Guide to Telephone Service

It's Your Call

When you pick up your telephone to make a call, are you aware that the company you have selected as your service provider probably offers rates, terms and conditions that may be different from other service providers?

In addition to traditional wireline telephone service, most consumers can now choose other service options such as wireless, cable-based and internet-based telephone services. Click here for a description of each type of service provider.

The PSC has developed a Consumer Guide to Telephone Service that looks at many of the services and features (such as E911 and number portability) which may be available with each of the four different types of service. Click here for a list of commonly-used terms and features.

Whether you choose to say "hello" using a traditional phone, a cellphone or a high speed internet connection, it is our hope that you will find the Consumer Guide to Telephone Service to be a valuable resource.
