The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, signed by President Obama on Feb. 17, 2009, includes funding for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and technologies. A brief description of the programs can be found below.

State Energy Program
|
Support energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and initiatives that will:
- Increase energy efficiency
- Reduce reliance on imported energy
- Improve the reliability of electricity and fuel supply
- Reduce the impacts of energy production and use on the environment

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants
|
Grants to New York State, local governments, territories and Indian Tribes to fund projects that reduce energy use, fossil fuel admissions and improve energy efficiency.

Weatherization Assistance
|
Fund a network of local community organizations to meet local household needs. About $250 million in economic stimulus money will be allocated to NYS.

Energy Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program and the Energy Star Program
|
New York's allocation, which is still to be determined, will be administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability
|
New York's allocation of the $4.5 billion national program is still to be determined. U.S. Department of Energy has issued notice of intent to issue funding opportunity, provided dates when applications are available and when those applications are due.

Applied Research, Development, Demonstration and Deployment Activities

New York's allocation of the $2.5 billion national program is still to be determined. $800 million is for biomass projects; $400 million is for geothermal projects; and $50 million is for efficiency of information and communications technology and standards.
