Natural Gas

Natural Gas is a vital component of the world's supply of energy.  It is used in our homes to fuel stoves, water heaters, dryers, furnances and other appliances.  It is used by industry to create a variety of products like plastics, steel and clothing.  More factories and electric generating plants are using natural gas because it produces fewer emissions than coal or fuel oil.

The PSC is responsible for overseeing the operations of natural gas utilities under Commission jurisdiction to ensure that they provide safe and adequate service at fair and reasonable rates.

This section has information about the natural gas utilities regulated by the PSC, the Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) that supply gas to New York consumers, Commission programs and initiatives regarding the State's supply of gas, and guides to help consumers make informed choices about their utility.

New and Noteworthy:

Staff Report on the State of Competitive Energy Markets

Corning Natural Gas Updates- Information on the Corning cases before the Commission.
ESCO Referral Program - Customers are provided the opportunity to obtain a 7% discount off of the utility's commodity price for an introductory person.

When purchasing an air conditioner, look for the energy efficiency rating (EER) on the ENERGYGUIDE label. The higher the ERR, the more efficient the air conditioner. Look for "energy Star" air conditioners because they are at least 20 more efficient than other utilities.
