New York Water Case Joint Proposal

          The New York State Public Service Commission will hold two Public Statement Hearings concerning a Joint Proposal that was filed by New York Water Service Corporation and the New York State Department of Public Service Staff on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 regarding New York Water Service Corporation's rate increase.

          The Joint Proposal (JP) filed by New York Water Service (NYWS) and Department of Public Service Staff (Staff) covers a three-year period and seeks to balance the Company's need to maintain safe and adequate service with the economic reality the state is facing.  The JP also proposes a process to address complaints of ratepayers that are filed with the Commission and certain complaints that were raised in the course of this proceeding.

          The Joint Proposal submitted by staff and the New York Water Service Corporation summarizes two options for implementing this three-year rate increase.  These two options are listed below:

Option One

• Annual revenues will increase by $1,915 million (8.47%) in the first year
• Annual revenues will increase by $418 million (1.57%) in the second year
• Annual revenues will increase by $526 million (1.95%) in the third year

Option Two

• Annual revenues will increase by $1,318 million (5.83%) in the first year
• Annual revenues will increase by $1,082 million (4.16%) in the second year
• Annual revenues will increase by $1,082 million (4.00%) in the third year
